Since its inception, the Arizona Concours d’Elegance has focused not just on beautiful automobiles but on supporting a very worthy beneficiary, Make-A-Wish® Arizona. Over the past three years, the Arizona Concours has donated more than $200,000 to the chapter, helping to grant more than 20 wishes for Arizona children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Not everyone is aware that the national Make-A-Wish Foundation started here in Arizona, making it all-the-more appropriate that the Arizona Concours should benefit this worthy cause. The Concours has become one of the largest fund-raising events benefiting the Arizona chapter.

Make-A-Wish Arizona is not just the recipient of the Arizona Concours but an active participant in the significant automotive event, which leads off Classic Car Week in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area every January. Make-A-Wish Arizona also gets the Wish Kids involved with special judging – a highlight of every Arizona Concours is the fanciful, custom-made Kids Choice award that goes to their favorite Concours car. Each year, the Wish Kids help remind us what’s truly important in life.

In addition, participants and committee members of the Arizona Concours helped fulfill a unique wish for one Make-A-Wish Arizona teen-ager who is battling leukemia. Jesus’s wish was to renovate an old Chevrolet that was languishing in his family’s back yard.   Arizona Concours supporters went to work organizing donations of money and manpower. Through the generosity of vehicle restorers in the area, Make-A-Wish Arizona was able to present Jesus with his wish on wheels.

The wishes that the organization grants are more than just fun for the Wish Kids but are an important part of their therapy. Wishes create joy and anticipation for the children, which translates into strength and endurance, providing hope for the future. Ninety-two percent of the parents of Wish Kids report that their children experienced re-empowerment in their lives during the wish process.

The fourth annual Arizona Concours d’Elegance takes place January 15, 2017, on the inner lawns of the historic Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix with more than 90 exquisite automobiles in about a dozen judged classes representing some of the world’s finest vintage vehicles. All net proceeds from the nationally recognized Arizona Concours, as well as generous donations from participants and spectators, will go to Make-A-Wish Arizona and future Arizona Wish Kids.
